The primary goals of Sacred Ace CBD Skincare are to preserve, protect and nourish the skin. First things first, let's talk about what a skin barrier is and why it's so important.

The complexity of the integumentary system (your skin and its various accessory organs like sweat glands, sensory receptors, hair, nails etc.) is a vast and amazing thing. The average person’s skin weighs something like 8 to 10 lbs and averages approximately 22 square ft, truly wild stuff. The basic anatomy of the skin is broken up into 5 amazing, action-packed layers:

1. The Epidermis - the outermost layer of the skin that protects the rest and is itself also composed of layers (microbiome, the acid mantle, and the lipid layer)
   
   
2. The Dermis - the live layer of connective tissues below the epidermis 
   
   
3. The Papillary Layer - receptors, blood vessels, and capillaries are found here
   
   
4. The Reticular Layer - hair follicles, glands, blood and lymph vessels, nerve endings, collagen and elastin are found here.  This layer is also the one supplying the skin with oxygen and nutrients - V important. 
   
   
5. The Subcutaneous Tissue - this layer provides protective cushion, provides contour and smoothness, and provides some energy for the body. 

Skin Barrier Science

The skin barrier is the name for the outermost layer of the epidermis (see diagram below) which helps protect your beautiful skin from harsh external elements, locking in moisture to prevent your skin from over-drying. The acid mantle, widely referenced by beauty experts and targeted by skin product lines, is located on the surface of your skin. It is a fine, slightly acidic film that acts as a barrier to harmful microbes and other irritants that might penetrate the skin. The acid mantle is the protective film of natural oils, amino acids and sweat that covers your skin. Essentially, it's the barrier for the barrier. The ideal pH balance for our acid mantle is just slightly on the acidic side at a pH range of around 4.5-5.5 which is why we have formulated all of our products to that exact range.

Damage to the skin barrier can happen for a variety of reasons like excessive sun, drug or alcohol consumption, and poor diet choices. More often than not though, damage happens as a result of harsh and toxic topical ingredients that overstimulate the barrier. The excessive number of products on the market and a growing public obsession with multi-step skincare has actually been more problematic for consumers’ skin than it has been healing. These aggressive skincare regimens can cause many skin barrier problems including sensitivities, irritation, dryness and premature skin aging to name a few.

All Sacred Ace lotions and creams (the Dowse line) are water-based emulsions that utilize Liquid Crystal (LC) Technology which mimics the three-dimensional structural organization of the human skin barrier. Liquid Crystal structures hold large amounts of water and CBD extracted from hemp, within this structure at the skin’s surface, where the CBD is transferred most effectively into the skin barrier.
